Vintage

Today there are 8 new challenges for Dare to be Dirty 07′ on SCS.  One of the challanges by WAXYO is to create a vintage looking card.  This is my attempt at that!  Here is her explanation:

Vintage Values: Creating a Vintage Look With Any ImageYou might think that you have to start with vintage images in order to create a vintage look to your creations…so not true!Grab your favorite stamped image – vintage or modern – and stamp and/or color as you wish. Next, select three varying shades of the same color of ink and one light shade of brown (some suggestions are below). Sponge the edges of your cardstock with the lightest value first, covering most of the image with this color. Layer the second value next closer to the edges of the cardstock, and then finish with the darkest value just on the edge of the cardstock. Lightly sponge the light shade of brown over the entire image and you’re done! You’ll notice that the light shade of brown “knocks down” the brightness of your colors and creates a nice, uniform vintage look to your image. Of course I love layering shades of brown, but this will work with just about any color combination…for example:Celery Green, Olive Green, Dark Green
Pale Yellow, Bright Yellow, Mustard Yellow
Baby Blue, Denim Blue, Navy
Pale Pink, Rose, Burgundy
Be sure to let us know what combinations work for you!”I did a purple color scheme.  It wasn’t listed but for some reason that called to me today! Here are the details for my card:

Stamps:Garden silloutetes, Sincere salutations, Paisley BG, Linen BG

Paper/Ink: Eggplant, Old Olive, Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Basic Brown, Close to Cocaoa, Creamy Carmel

Accessories: Wide Organdy ribbon vanilla (retired), Eggplant grosgrain ribbon, Pretties kit hat pin, pearls, and spacers, paper piercer, and corner rounder

First I stamped my Paisley BG on the cardbase in Elegant Eggpant.  I then stamped the Paisley BG on my piece of Old Olive and the layered the Linen BG on top of that in Close to Cocoa.  I used the corner rounder to make the scallop and then paper pierced the scallops.  For my main image I markered the Cherry blossom with Old olive, perfect plum and pale plum.  I stamped that on Very Vanilla.  I then did as Meg’s instructions say and sponged first pale plum, then Perfect Plum, next Eggplant, then Creamy caramel and then finally close to cocoa on the edges.  I distressed it with the cutter tool.  I stamped the thinking of you in basic brown and then layered that on a piece of pale plum.  I tied my knot and put the hat pin through the knot and done…
I hope you all are having a great weekend!  I need to go clean up a little boy that is covered with peanut butter and jelly!

For my sweetie

Another challenge card today, wow what a great day I have had stamping and spending time with my family.  We did have to go to the ER this morning because my 11 month old accidentally got his elbow pulled out of the socket.  He is fine and back in tip top shape!  We cleaned the garage out so I car can actually park in there now and went for a long walk to the park in VERY hot weather.  We came home had Popsicles and a water fight.  Now the boys are in bed and I am headed that way soon!  I wanted to share my card with you all before I went.  I combines three challenges into one, Toy’s challenge was to use a set that was not traditionally used for men and create a card for your sweetie.  I wasn’t suppose to use green or blue so I did cheat a little on that one…Jenn B. challenge was to use bright bold colors.  As you can see I did that one!  Leslie’s challenge was to do out of the box.  That means as Leslie puts it  Bump out part of your design by cutting away an edge of the panel and leaving the stamped image to overhang. “
“When I do out of the box I like to stamp my image on a panel just like I normally would. Then I determine how much of my design I want to bump out. Usually I just draw a faint pencil line where I plan to cut, using my clear ruler as a straight edge and skipping over the stamped image as I go along. Then I cut along the line. Where the line meets the stamped image I cut around the image until I meet up with the pencil line again. Erase the line when done cutting. Mat image as usual. That’s all there is to it!”

So there is my 3-1!  Here are my details:

Stamps: Wild about you, Dotted BG, Double Line Doodles, Big Deal Alpha

Paper/Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Wild Wasabi, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie, Black, Only Orange, Real Red

Accessories: Jersey Ribbon, Needle, Linen thread, Coluzzle, Mat pack, snips, dimentionals, 1/8 hole punch , glue dots

One my cardbase I stamped the dotted background and adhered my cutout circle.  I then layered my jersey ribbon onto the cardbase.  I stamped my main image cut it out and layered the lions mane and face with dementionals.  I used the hole punch to make small circles in only orange for the giraffe’s spots.  I dotted the border with the black marker and the mat pack.  I hand sewed the corners of the main image and layered it on the real red.  I put the main image on with demintioanls as well.  I showed Chad and said this is for you but I am going to sell it at the Farmers Market…just kidding!
